Nemmès, the platform for custom jewelry creation

Nemmès is a jewellery brand born from the dream to allow anyone to create unique and custom made jewelry. Earrings, necklace, wristband can be fully customised via a 3D creation interface on the brand’s website, allowing an infinite number of possibilities for clients willing to create their own jewelry.

Could you rapidly introduce yourself and how you got there?

Julie : I currently hold the position of CTO at Nemmès, and I am a graduate of school 42. I have a rather special background, since before I entered school 42, I was a real estate agent. After two years of study in this field, I quickly realized during my first job that it wasn’t for me, a chance to realize it so quickly because it allowed me to bounce back and integrate 42.

How did you come up with the idea to launch Nemmès?

Julie : During my first year at 42, I worked on a similar project in Nemmes, based on the creation of customised and personalised clothing, thanks to 3D knitting technology that allowed us to design knitted clothing according to a pattern in the space of an hour. Since then, I am convinced that ultra-customization is the best way to change current consumption patterns, with the aim of consuming better but less, by giving meaning to the objects we buy. It’s a project that never saw the light of day, but it allowed me to meet the people who put me on the road to Arnault when Nemmès was born.

What is the best memory of your entrepreneurial journey?

Julie : The first sales we made at the Made in France show in 2018. Especially the faces of the stunned visitors discovering our creation interface!

What was Nemmès’s biggest success?

Julie : The release of our earrings. We managed to create a simple interface for the headlines and the challenge was to be able to replicate it on other jewels and go further in the creation experience. It’s a successful bet!

…And the worst failure ?

Julie: To make our users understand how beautiful jewellery is in real life. The 3D interface today does not reflect the quality of our jewels, it is one of our major axes of improvement and what we are currently working on.

If you could start from the beginning, what would you do differently?

Julie: Nothing, it is thanks to all our mistakes that we are where we are today.

What advice would you give to someone willing to embark on an entrepreneurial adventure?

Julie: It’s a marathon, not a sprint. We often want to go fast, but it’s important to keep a healthy pace and a normal social life.

What was the most important event for Nemmès this year?

Julie: For 2020, it was the Bijorhca show last January, where we were voted the show’s favourite. For the year 2019, it is the arrival of all the members of our current team that gives the company its soul.

What’s the next step?

Julie : We are starting our fundraising campaign, which is a challenge often encountered by entrepreneurs, but that doesn’t take anything away from its difficulty.

What are the trends that inspire you, the innovations to watch closely?

Julie : We want to go further and further in the creative experiences, both in the playful side of the experience and in the visualization of products, which will push us even further towards augmented reality.
